Intro to Witches’ Flying Ointments
$45.00
Taught by Herbalist S.A. Lawless
Original Class Date: April 2023
Immerse yourself in the fascinating history and mythology of witches’ flying ointments from their ancient ties to modern day uses. We know them by many names: witches’ flying ointment, unguentum sabbati, unguentum lamiarum, and other times they are simply referred to as the diabolical potions or oils of witches. A flying ointment is a salve made with rendered animal fat or an oil which has been infused with poisonous and/or psychoactive herbs. These substances were purportedly used by witches to fly to their sabbath rites, to shape-shift into animals, to cause people to fall asleep, to cast love spells, or to curse people with madness. This class covers their background, their legends and myths, their legitimacy, the plants associated with flying ointments, how flying ointments work, and how they can be used for medicine, magic, and ritual.
Please note this is a long class with no visual aids and it is best listened to as a podcast while doing busywork. This class is from 2023 and is unedited and contains info about The Poison Garden that is now out of date. The Poison Garden does not manufacture or sell flying ointments.
