Castor oil is derived from castor bean seeds from the ricinus communis plant. The oil is non toxic despite originating from a poisonous plant and has been in use for cosmetics and skin moisturizers since the ancient Egyptians. Our Castor Seed Oil is manually expressed without solvents from non-GMO castor bean seeds. Castor oil is thick and deeply moisturizing due to its emollient and humectant properties. Despite its thickness, the oil is non-comedogenic and won’t clog pores.
Castor oil can be used undiluted to treat scars and stretch marks, to stimulate nail growth, and as a deep long-lasting moisturizer for dry, cracked skin (especially heels and joints). Castor oil is a common ingredient diluted in ratios from 2% – 15% in skincare creams and lotions, lip balms, hair conditioners, scalp treatments, and cold process soaps.
